Love this location, smack dab in the middle of downtown Des Moines, right next to the library and a few blocks down from the sculpture garden. Indoor and outdoor seating, drinks are very consistent and baristas are always friendly. Smaller location than normal, but still a fun spot to get some work done if you don't have a massive study group. Gets pretty busy on workday mornings and afternoons, but that's to be expected! Street parking.

This is probably my favorite Starbucks. I love downtown Des Moines and this delectable little coffee bar is tucked into the beautiful old building that also houses South Union Bread Cafe, Centro, and the Temple for the Performing Arts. So not only do get an amazing blend of smells but it's also one of my favorite places to people watch. The staff here is always friendly and upbeat. While I do not come here enough for them to remember my name, they do still manage to make you feel right at home. Great coffee, warm atmosphere and beautiful architecture.

Some people may not like Starbucks, since it's a large chain but I'm a fan and I'll gladly admit it! Every morning during work I'll walk over to the Starbucks on Locust and it's always super packed, but the staff does a good job on keeping the line moving and there are always plenty of baristas working there. I don't get anything fancy during the work week, since I need as much caffeine as I can get, so I usually opt for a venti black coffee or iced coffee, so I don't have to wait very long before I get my drink. I like the convenience and consistency of Starbucks, which is why I keep going back and will continue to go back for my coffee fix. Plus their food choices have grown, so it's very tempting to order a snack or pastry while waiting in line :)

A lot of people walk to this location. During peak times the line is usually by the front entrance. The baristas generally do a great job of keeping the line moving. I frequent this location on at least 3 or 4 times a week. Occasionally they will have very slow days to complete an order or have forgotten to make my drink. I usually head here during my lunch break and have limited time. Overall they do an excellent job with my drink orders. The staff here is awesome and they take the time to get to know you if you come here often! Very clean location. There is some tables and high tops to sit. Otherwise there is a lot of outdoor seating too.

I love coffee & Starbucks Coffee is no exception. The Merle Hay location is my favorite because the people there just seem to always get my drink just right & are patient with my ten year old when he's being indecisive & he's usually indecisive. Their bacon gouda breakfast sandwiches are awesome too. A little on the pricey side in my opinion for the size they are but you can get them in the afternoon and who doesn't like to get breakfast whenever they want it?

This Starbucks helps my fitness. Why? Because there's no drive-thru and parking can be a hassle so I simply walk here from my residence a mile away. I believe this is the original Des Moines location. It's much smaller on the inside than I imagined. The staff is super efficient and friendly. I usually get a bacon gouda sandwich and a shot of espresso on the weekends. The sparse seating is usually taken up by campers with laptops. Yes, I like to support local (they know me by name at Zanzibar's) but this Starbucks is a weekend walk and treat.

This is by far the best Starbucks I have ever been to. Their staff is incredibly friendly and welcoming. I especially appreciate the service of Jamie, Maddie, and Sydney during my visit. I am from out of state and had a few hours to spend and they made me feel welcomed and at home. The tea and lemonade was amazing as well as the iced latte. Best Starbucks I have ever been to by far!

The location of this Starbucks is what makes it stand out to me. I enjoy being able to choose between indoor cafe seating (my last choice), the lovely outdoor patio with lots of birds chirping next to the public library, or the artsy lobby area with young students carrying cellos and violins, etc... I like to give my tips in quarters because I notice the baristas have to go outside periodically to feed the meters.

The thing I want in National Chains is consistency and Starbucks is always pretty right on. They have good coffee at a decent price, the staff at the locust location is fantastic and they always have clean bathrooms. I have never ordered any of the food but the coffee is always spot on and giving to you with a smile! This is pretty much the same experience I have at others across the land whether I have been in NYC or Seattle!

I've tried so many times with this location and it's just terrible service. Soooooo slowwwwww. On multiple occasions my drink gets passed by others who came after me and there is absolutely no sense of urgency. Worst SB I've been to and I've visited a lot in many cites due to work travel. Disappointed this is the one in my neighborhood.

For a Starbuck's location this is as good as it get's especially if you are a regular. After a few visits they will know your name and drink. The morning staff is the best and never keep you waiting. Be prepared to wait a bit if you stop in between 8-9 as the Allied crowd keeps the lights on here.

What can I say, they have great coffee! Every Starbucks is not created equal. This one has a sort of snooty downtown smugness to it. I don't mean that in a bad way or anything, but the baristas will silently judge you while appearing helpful and kind. Wide drink selection, limited food. They don't carry some of the random foods that other Starbucks have like Spinach wraps, but they have lots of pastries and sweets. Not a fan of the chai, too spicy for me. Limited seating inside but when the weather is nice, there is a large seating area between Starbucks and the library.

Can I ever find a bad starbucks? A nice little coffee shop located just west of the major buildings downtown. I have been there a couple times and it is a great place to start your sat morning before heading to the farmer's market in the summertime
